Saxophonist and official Benny Golson Jazz Master Paul Carr leads an all-star quintet, including NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis, for two shows at Blues Alley Tuesday evening.
Wednesday June 28th
Guess what, Rhizome has some experimental music on Wednesday evening. “DC and Atlanta collide, gently” with a set featuring Layne Garrett, Nate Scheible, Majid Araim, and Lucifer Arias. The evening also features Ceremonial Abyss from Portland and Breath of the Magi from Baltimore.
Thursday June 29th
Classic punk band The Owners (subtext: of the Black Cat) celebrate Dante Ferrando’s birthday with a show at DC9 Thursday night. Nothing weird about that. Openers include Brooklyn’s Shop Talk and new DC band Sex Faces.
Friday June 30th
We can’t pick just one tonight, and no one’s making us anwyay. First up, as we mentioned last week, Strangers That Clique are doing the release show thing for After Hours Friday night at DC9, and Transformers-obsessed rapper Night Train 357 sets the scene with tunes from his new release Mics of Cybertron.
Folky rock band You and Me and You celebrate the release of their new album Just To Keep Them Happy at the Black Cat Friday night. Plus, show up on time for a rare chance to see DC-expat, dreamy singer Lotion Princess.
Saturday July 1st
We can guarantee a night of feel-good indie rock music Saturday night at Slash Run from NAYAN (f.k.a. The NRIs) and Professor Goldstein, host of the DIY venue/YouTube channel The Classroom.
Sunday July 2nd
Event curators Interstellar Minds and Gram International present rapper-turned-singer Al Hostile headlining DC9 Sunday night, also featuring Foots x Coles, RYN, and ChoGod.
