Sunday’s Washington Post included this article about how the bosses are turning from carrots to sticks to get their teleworkers to give up the joys of working from home in slouchy pants and cram back into Metro trains and gridlocked cars to work under bad lighting with few windows. DC pop-punk band American Television addresses the perils of angry co-workers in corporate America in their new music video for “Bittersweet”, from the upcoming full length album Scars that drops on September 22nd on Smartpunk Records. This is the “Battle Hymn of the District” that DC office workers need now!

Monday September 11th
“The world’s most soulful trombonist / Guardian of the Groove” Herm Hopkins leads his Soul Big Band (and it is a very big band indeed) Monday night at Blues Alley. Perhaps they will get a soccer announcer to yell “Soooouuuuulllllllll”!
Tuesday September 12th
Blues Alley comes through again Tuesday night hosting Brandon Showell, pop vocalist and contestant on both The X-Factor and The Voice AND two time Wammie Award winner, leading a full band performance at two shows, 7 and 9 PM.
Wednesday September 13th
Keywords: “Stoner doom”; “Sludge hardcore”. The Pie Shop gets dark and dank Wednesday night with DMV bands Fuzz Voyage, The Crow’s Eye, Carrier Wave, and Blood Stained Teeth.
Thursday September 14th
This one’s a bit different. Will Copps, half of the duo Wall of Trophies with singer Brittany Jean, also creates immersive audio/visual site-specific art installations using smartphone apps. His latest creation Liminal “'leverages emerging spatial composition techniques to turn the Catholic University of America campus into an immersive, interactive soundscape, reframing the history and features of the campus through music and sound for students, faculty, and visitors”. The opening reception is Thursday evening from 5-7 PM at the Salve Regina Gallery in Catholic University.
Friday September 15th
Three DMV bands guaranteed to rawk your socks off come together Friday night at The Runaway, and they are: Chay Vicious! A Shrewdness of Apes! and Please Knock!
Saturday September 16th
Get your art-punk on Saturday night at Rhizome with Sensor Ghost (featuring members of Puff Pieces, Antelope, Weed Tree, Light Beams, and The Cornel West Theory) and Bed Maker (prominently featuring Fort Reno’s Amanda MacKaye), along with Philly post-punks Heatmap.
Sunday September 17th
Hawaiian swing band The Hula Monsters are a secret DC treasure. 6 PM Sunday night at Hank Dietle’s Tavern in Rockville, and wear your best Aloha shirt.
