Mary Timony, DC music legend of the bands Helium, Autoclave, Wild Flag, Ex Hex, and Hammered Hulls, last week announced her first solo album in 15 years, called Untame the Tiger, coming out on Merge Records on February 23rd. The debut single “Dominoes” and its accompanying psychedelic music video (directed by DR. CAT) got the writeup treatment from Pitchfork, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, Consequence etc. Tickets for her DC show at Black Cat on March 14th featuring Birthday Girl are on sale now.

Avant-garde saxophonist Sarah Hughes hosts a listening party for the new eponymous album by her free jazz septet Zara at Rhizome Monday evening. Expect drinks, snacks, download codes, Sarah’s visual art creations, and performances by members of the ensemble.

Philly indie pop band lowercase roses wraps up their fall tour at the Quarry House Tavern Tuesday night, with help from gorgeous DC acts Berra and Rex.Pax.

Georgetown’s Blues Alley hosts two shows Wednesday night with roots rock guitarist David Chappell leading a quartet featuring The Messthetics’ Anthony Pirog. He’s everywhere!
Thursday November 16th
Always jazzy and tight, Caribbean ska band Eastern Standard Time headlines the monthly Bluebeat ska & reggae night Thursday at The Wonderland Ballroom, with latin reggae band Kickoman opening the night’s festivities.
Saturday November 18th
DC, this is the last chance we have to get you to see dynamic dance-rock band Light Beams celebrate the release of their new record Wild Life at Comet Ping Pong Saturday night! Brooklyn’s Johnny Dynamite also show off their new record, and Club USA, a new band featuring members of The Apes, Heavy Breathing, and Cavale, fire off the opening salvo.
