In The News
Sophia Solano at WaPo profiles emo duo Origami Angel, who are hyping the release of their new mini-album The Brightest Days with 3 consecutive shows this week at Pie Shop, DC9 and Union Stage. We absolutely love this idea! The first two are sold out, but Union Stage might have a couple of tickets left for you.

DC Music Video(s)
First up, we must give our warmest affection for the new song and video from Rye Thomas’s solo musical act Soft Punch. “Here / Now”, the lead single from SP’s new album Above Water, is a statement to focus on the present moment and tune out the FOMO from social media. Thomas, a music journalist and former member of Tereu Tereu, has been coping with ME/CFS for about a decade now. His determination to create in the face of his challenges is inspirational, so we hope you’ll check out his Patreon and pre-order the album on Bandcamp now. Learn more about Ryan and the video from This Week In Pop.
And finally, just for fun, here’s bona-fide TikTok stars Sub-Radio with the full version of a song you will definitely recognize. <3
Don’t Stay Home This Week
Monday July 10th
Monday’s Fort Reno lineup includes one act you’ve probably heard of, Pearie Sol, and two that are brand new: Birthday Girl and Traumuntanas. Free, 7 pm.
Tuesday July 11th
Punk rock of the old school kicks it Tuesday night at The Runaway with Jonny & The Black Frames on tour from Huntsville AL, along with DC acts The Delarcos and, filling in for ChargedCam36, The Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.
Wednesday July 12th
Four bands is a lot for The Runaway to ask of you on a Wednesday night, but we believe in you, DC. Arty, dreamy pop bands from right here, Glosser and Bottled Up, are joined by Pearl Earl from LA and Meghan Dowlen from ATL.
Thursday July 13th
The weather forecast for Thursday looks pretty iffy right now, but if anyone can weather the storm it’s The Yachtsmen. They’re the anchor leg of the Fort Reno show Thursday night, along with Ammonite and Oren Levine & Friends.
Friday July 14th
Friday night’s show at Takoma Park DIY venue Rhizome features indie/folk/rock band Rosie Cima & What She Dreamed and two notable experimental acts, Bushmeat Sound and Spark Isle, who hosts the monthly Rhizome Experimental Jam.
Saturday July 15th
We love shouting out a show that shouts out a record release! The fuzz punk/indie folk duo Faunas play songs from their new album Paint the Birds Saturday night at Comet Ping Pong, with a great all-DMV lineup of Big Cry Country and Fantazma.
Sunday July 16th
Hank Dietle’s Tavern has a double-header of great Americana music Sunday. The 2 PM matinee features acoustic blues band The Hard Swimmin’ Fish, and at 6 PM the Hawaiian swing band The Hula Monsters take the stage.
Signing Off
What do you want to see more of here? What’s not doing it for you (apart from the puns)? Let us know in the comments, or smash that reply button and let your feelings out. As usual, we’ll remind you to look after your friends, buy some advance tix to a fun show, and listen to some tunes made by humans, selected by humans, maybe even humans that you know. See you next week friends.
