In The News
Slovenian online music magazine It’s Psychedelic Baby! interviewed bassist Joe Lally of Coriky, The Messthetics and Fugazi. Such a thoughtful dude.
In unfortunate news, Rita Sligh, bartender at Pearl Street Warehouse on the Wharf, was recently attacked, robbed and injured after leaving work in early February. The Pearl Street family have set up a GoFundMe “The Rita Recovery Fund” to help Sligh get back on her feet. Please help as you are able.
Physical Media
The debut issue of The Turnaround, Amy K. Bormet’s magazine component to the currently-running Washington Women in Jazz Festival, is now available to order on Bandcamp. It’s gorgeous and print-only, so grab a copy now while you can.
Don’t Stay Home This Week
Monday March 13th
Biomorphic Forms: great band name. DC based flutist/vocalist Alex Hamburger, drummer Keith Butler, and New York based trumpet/synth player Nicole Davis join Washington Women in Jazz organizer Amy K. Bormet for two sets, 7 and 9 PM) of her Monday night Blues Alley March residency.
Tuesday March 14th
3.1415926535897932… It’s Pi Day, and DC’s most devoted photographer Roxplosion hosts a FREE celebration at the Pie Shop with Sheila, Ladygod, and Baltimore’s BLKVAPOR.
Wednesday March 15th
Can we interest you in some Beeps, Boops & Beers? Aslin Beer’s Alexandria Taproom hosts a night of experimental synth music Wednesday night with Medenine, Noah Totten, Ri Caragol, Tangent Universes, and Copacaballa.
Thursday March 16th
We love the eclectic composition of this bill. Thursday night at Slash Run you’ll see Ammonite, featuring members of The OSYX, along with electronics wizard Jaguardini from Harrisonburg VA and ambient guitarist Tristan Welch.
Friday March 17th
Incredibly, it is not too late to grab tickets for this stacked go-go lineup of Be’la Dona, The Chuck Brown Band, and EU feat. Sugar Bear at the Fillmore Silver Spring on Friday night. Hallelujah! We promise this is at least a thousand times better than going to an Irish bar on St. Patrick’s Day.
Saturday March 18th
This one was a tough call, as there are a hell of a lot of top-notch DC shows to recommend this night. Our Saturday night choice is Slash Run’s lineup of NAYAN (fka The NRIs), The Mantis DC and Dougie. Three rock bands and a “multimedia experience” from visual artist Monica Stroik.
Sunday March 19th
Perhaps you know Brazilian singer Elin Melgarejo from her collaborations with Thievery Corporation or fronting the band Alma Tropicália. On Sunday she celebrates her 50th birthday with a bash at Bossa featuring hew new band and an all-star jam session.
Thanks For Reading
Look out for each other, DC. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the Oscar winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once, and if you have then watch it again (it’s on Showtime right now, and you can probably get a free trial). And find a new song to truly love. See you next week.
