Don’t Stay Home This Week
Monday May 22nd
Not to be confused with a similarly named progressive metal band, Dream Feeder is a “discordant, mysterious” jazz trio of Brad Linde, Keith Butler Jr., and Nelson Dougherty. They’ll be recording a live album Monday night at Rhizome, along with local creators of musical happenings Matthew Waterman and Felipe Verdejo.
Tuesday May 23rd
Vocal jazz group Veronneau continues their May residency at Blues Alley Tuesday evening with “Blue Tapestry”, new interpretations of two influential 1971 albums: Joni Mitchell’s Blue and Carole King’s Tapestry.
Wednesday May 24th
Bossa’s Wednesday night features journalist and asian jazz fusion bandleader Sriram Gopal’s group The Fourth Stream. We really hope it does anyway, as Bossa’s website has no listing for this night, but here’s the Facebook event to back us up.
Thursday May 25th
Your emo heart will be filled to capacity by Landon Philip in his new-ish musical identity I Wish I Had Stayed Thursday night at The Runaway. Plus you get “quaalude swing” band The French Champagne and anarchist punks Trash Boat and The Ambush.
Let’s have one more! Early 90s-esque melodic post-punk band Celebration Summer headlines an epic 4 band bill Thursday evening at DC9, along with Baltimore’s Dinged Up, Spells on tour from Denver, and pounding indie rock band Railsplitter.
Friday May 26th
SleepMarks is classic DC-area indie rock band featuring members of Gist, Maple, The Chance, and We Capillaries. Friday night at Slash Run is an all-local rock lineup with SleepMarks, Nice Breeze, and Broken Hills.
Saturday May 27th
Garage and power-pop invade The Runaway Saturday night with The Airport 77’s, the Delarcos, Baltimore’s Coastguard, and DJ Link. Click on the play button below and get one of my favorite earworms stuck in your head right now.
Sunday May 28th
As reported on our recent podcast with The Lucky So & So’s, Sunday night it’s rapper Ardamus at the Artemis. This rare solo headlining gig includes fellow DMV artist Spoken Nerd, DJ Hailak on the 1s and 2s, and an open mic night if you have the skills to join in.
Monday May 29th
Surprise, Memorial Day snuck right up on you and gave you a 3 day weekend. So wrap it up in style with alto saxophonist and bandleader Herb Scott at Blues Alley Monday night for two sets at 7 and 9.
Have a Great Week
Whew! Thanks for reading, friends. Now buy some music even though it’s not Bandcamp Friday, and we’ll see you in your overfull inboxes next week.
