Welcome
We hope all music fans reading this newsletter win all the Atlantis tickets they applied for, though apparently demand exceeds supply by a factor of 26. Ouch. In the meantime, let’s get into the latest in the DC music scene.
It’s A Podcast!
Paul & Tony sent a new episode of the Hometown Sounds podcast through the RSS series of tubes to all podcast subscribers. Here’s the songs we picked out, this time with 100% Bandcamp availability. Now go forth and subscribe, wishlist & buy.
In The News
CityPaper introduces the new rock band Endlings, rising from the ashes of soul-punk group Lightmare. The article references Bandcamp demos, and we’re happy to embed them right here.
CityPaper also helps get the word out about indie synthpop (and multi-Wammied) band Pretty Bitter’s crowdfunding campaign for an August tour. Help them out as you’re able, they are icons of DC’s flourishing queer music scene.
For the Post, Michael J. West profiles saxophonist Braxton Cook, raised in DC and returning for a show Wednesday night April 12th at Songbyrd.
Also at the Post, Sophia Solano presents Adamare, a band of DC teachers fusing soul, jazz, psychedelia and more.
Don’t Stay Home This Week
Monday April 10th
Here’s what we have for your Monday night: genre-bending they/themcore band Spring Silver opens for “toy person & rapper” Pink Navel at the Pie Shop, along with Atlanta band Sword II and Scumlord, who are a total mystery to us.
Tuesday April 11th
This one’s a bit odd: beloved DMV alum, producer and rapper Oddisee, who we’ve seen blow the lid right off the 930 Club, is preparing for a European tour with his band Goodcompany with a ticketed “live rehearsal” at Songbyrd on Tuesday night. It’s quite unusual for an act of this level to sell tickets to a rehearsal in a venue the size of Songbyrd, so if this is your thing then don’t miss the opportunity!
Wednesday April 12th
The PHLOTE showcase returns to the The Pocket in 7DrumCity Wednesday night, presenting out-there rapper Nappy Nappa of Model Home along with Melani Badz, Black Moses, and some sus ideas about Web3 and NFTs.
Thursday April 13th
Happy 42nd Birthday and album release party for rapper Ryan Lucas’s new album Stars & Hearts this Thursday night at the Anacostia Arts Center. Grab tix right now because the lineup is all-star, featuring Ardamus, Night Train 357, Dior Ashley, and a lot more!
Friday April 14th
Songwriter Rachel Brassie kicks off a new monthly residency at Little Penn Coffeehouse Friday night with help from superheroine Emma G and newcomers Caro.
Saturday April 15th
Indie soul royalty Oh He Dead venture across the river for a rare set at the legendary Birchmere in Alexandria Saturday night.
Sunday April 16th
If you’re looking for any DC punks on Sunday night, they’ll all be at the Black Cat for Alec MacKaye’s Dischord band Hammered Hulls, The Owners featuring the owners of the Black Cat, and punk supergroup Fake Names, now with 100% more Brendan Canty. How much more harDCore this show could possibly be.
That’s It For Now
Thanks as always for reading. The golden age of social media being helpful is dead & gone, so we’re counting on you to forward this to your friends and bandmates and publicists etc etc. Hold tight, see you next week DC.
